Why is it that conspiracy theories flourish around events like 9/11 and JFK's death but....?
never around FAILED events such as the assassination attempts on Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford?
Theories abound when it is a successful (if I may use that word) attempt, but never when the attempt fails. Why is that?
I think there are two reasons, using the specific examples you gave. One, is that it doesn't have the same psychological impact when perpetrators succeed ( as they did with 9/11 and the assassination of JFK ). When the perpetrators fail, it can easily be forgotten because it is of relatively little consequence. Yes, it is ultimately irrationalfor people to think that way, but that is the way people typically behave.
The second reason, is that in the cases of 9/11 and the JFK assassination, the perpetrators died before they could be thoroughly questioned. This of course left a lot of unanswered questions of why the event in question occurred. Unlike the assassination attempts on Reagan and Ford, where the would be assassins remain alive to this day.
